Kitty, shopgirl in London, meets private Peter, and sudden love and marriage develop, she assuming their backgrounds are similar. After the honeymoon, he takes her to his home, which turns out to be a manorial estate, complete with titles, hostile dowager mother, and sullen sister. Kitty, aware she does not belong, sticks it out even when Peter is sent to France, but runs away when she finds herself pregnant. Peter is reported killed -- Kitty loses her mind temporarilly and sends the baby to her in-laws to assure him his birthright, and Peter returns alive to bring Kitty back to a repentant mother-in-law. Sticky sweetness -- but reliable rentals.
