YEAR OF DISCOVERY

Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is the scene for Prue Prescott's year of discovery. Compelled to undertake a series of self-financed tests on food containers he has invented, Prue's father is unable to scrape up what is necessary to send Prue to Wellesley in the fall. However, in a year working as a menial in a newspaper office, aiding in local theatricals and becoming part of the community, Prue learns a lot about her own life and the men in it -- her courageous father; steady and idealistic George Snow; unconventional Jack and his elegant Harvardian brother Hamilton. Reading, listening and fighting to keep her father's laboratory in the town lead to a discovery of the real and the earnest. Lightweight tale laced with heavy doses of the struggle towards non-U and away from Wellesley.
