KIRKUS REVIEW

More truth than fiction in this story of a mustang, the first one born in the United States in the 16th century. Of his self reliance, his courage, his wisdom as he faces alone -- or with the herd -- the dangers of an uncivilized life. How Stormy bests jaguars, wolves, buffaloes, coyotes; how he eludes Indians and escapes a prairie fire, how he is captured by a Spaniard and eventually escapes to return to his herd. True animal story with authentic sense of background, but not adventurous reading.
