FARM ANIMALS

An uninspired but very useful book -- of purely reference interest. Libraries abound in encyclopedic information about strange animals, but here is a book on the subject of all farm animals, for children wanting background information on breeds, appearance, habits, uses, etc. 4 H groups -- rural community school libraries as well as other school and public libraries will find it factual, accurate, comprehensive -- but a bit too academic in treatment to strike an original note. Nils Hogner has made precise black and white drawings to supplement the text. Ample Table of Contents -- careful classification -- full cross index make it practical. The jacket is so gay and decoratiye that it gives the erroneous impression of a picture book for younger children.
