A bevy of unrelated characters on Monte Porpora in Italy and become involved in the theft of some valuable paintings. Jeremy, an English boy visiting his friend Marco, is especially active in digging for clues and discovering a few dead bodies. Reggle Masters, a policeman disguised as a playboy, pieces the puzzle together and points to the leader of the syndicate and the role of one of the victims, responsible for shipping the paintings out. of expdition make it all plausible (?) for the reader with patience enough to wade through a jungle of unconnected events and undeveloped characters.
