END OF SUMMER

A gushy, girlish story about Elizabeth, a little homemaker for her father and brother after her mother dies, and determined to be just that until she's ousted by a stepmother, Ann. Elizabeth behaves abominably toward her and finally runs away to London to take up with some trendy people: Carol, a roommate (who leaves her with all the back rent to pay up); Merrily (verily -- we kid you not) for whom she works in an interior decorating boutique; and Gerry Ashton, a suave young man whom Merrily is keeping. At the end Ann's ""comforting arms"" and helping hand get her out of the mess she's made and she's a lot wiser, but then she wasn't very bright to begin with. This is for others like her.
