PORTFOLIO EDITORS OF; VAN GOGH; EL GRECO; RENOIR; GREAT MASTERPIECES; MASTERPIECES OF ITALIAN PAINTING

Last Fall (see report P. 652) the Library of Great Painters at $10 each was greeted with enthusiasm by press and public alike. The quality of the reproductions, the care taken in selection, the intensely interesting and revealing introductions and descriptive matter made these volumes unique. Now, drawing from the same source of new reproductions of famous paintings, these Portfolio Editions are being published to meet the slender purse. In each of the above, ten fine color plates, tipped in for framing, for study, excellent brief, compact introductions by authorities (Shapiro and Fox contributed introductory material for the original volumes), and practical portfolio form combine to make these extraordinary values at this modest price. Illustrating the introductory matter are monochrome illustrations, studies, details from larger works, etc. Five additions to the series are in preparation, so promotion work done on these should continue to bear fruit. Plus distribution for college and high schools is important.
