PENNY AND GINGER

Pearl Harbor makes immediate changes in the lives of Penny Marsh and her friend, Ginger Lee. Ginger, as a murse in the army reserve, must put off her marriage. She sees war at its grimmest on Bataan, is one of the few to get off safely, and is then able to marry her miles. Penny's husband joins the Army Medical Corps, and Penny goes back to the city with her four-year old twins, takes up Red Cross work, emergency nursing, training nurses' aides. The book has lots of information regarding different types of war service for nurses. Dorothy Deming knows her stuff, but -- in spite of the success of this series -- she never seems to me to click with her stories.
