SINGING VALLEYS The Story of Corn

A montage shot of America, with corn the determining influence in the country's growth and development. It betrayed the Indians; it made possible the tobacco trade and slave economy of the South; it protected New England for its fish and fur trade; it conditioned sectional differences; it made possible exploration, pioneering and expansion and the feeding of a growing people; it promoted the creation of towns around the mill. Culture and the influence of corn, in cookery, in legend, in story. A thesis made to include much of interest, history, economics, society. It seems a bit forced at times, the ""thesis"" spun a bit thin. But much of it is worth reading. Should have supplementary value in progressive schools' approach to history and geography.
