THE BELLS OF FREEDOM

12-year-old bound boy is bought by a Boston printer and engraver from the smith who had misused him -- and he finds himself so grateful for kindness that he is scarcely aware that he is being used in nefarious schemes by two counter-eiters. The time is immediately before Lexington and Concord; the place, Boston and its environs. And the story provides an unusual vehicle for linking together any of the less familiar as well as familiar aspects of those tempestuous days, in good adventure with a bit of a moral, not too obviously indicated. Better written and plotted than many of its genre.
