HUMPBACK WHALES

This year's second spectacular book on whales (cf. Simon's Whales, p. 997/C-173)--and though this one has less generous dimensions than Simon's, the excellent photos are clearer, especially the underwater shots, and more clearly reproduced; the photographers are experienced researchers long familiar with these whales. The much briefer, authoritative text, which of course covers only the humpback, is aimed at somewhat younger readers. This very attractive book is marred only by clumsy typography: a particularly glaring use of letter spacing.
