A re-issue of a fine book published originally in 1932, this is an adaptation of William Morris' epic poem, Sigurd the Volsung, specifically that part of it that deals with Sigurd's ancestry and birth, and his awakening of Brynhild. It is the same legendary hero on which Wagner based his libretto for the Nibelungen Ring and this particular part parallels the story of Siegfried. It is recounted with the heroic grandeur that belongs with deeds of gods and the mortals those gods befriend and protect. Young readers love the sweep and color of the phraseology.
