RIDING WITH CORONADO

Subtitled: From Pedro de Casteneda's Eyewitness Account of the Exploration of the Southwest Called RELACION DE LA JORNADA DE CIBOLA and Including Two of Coronado's Letters Sent from the Land of the Pueblos -- which tells you practically everything you need to know except that, as adapted and edited, it reads smoothly and covers many areas of interest -- battles, early Indian life, exploration problems and constant adventure. Pedro de Casteneda was an earnest, careful reporter. He had a sense of indignation at the exaggerations and distortions being circulated about the 16th century Coronado explorations in the New World. This record of Indians, Coronado's army, its troubles and triumphs, should have appeal outside the primary market area for adults as well as younger readers. The editors have adapted other historical material -- Pilgrim Courage (1962). Leonard Everett Fisher's strong black and white drawings make this a handsome book.
