RED EMBERS

Another first rate horse and girl story, with polo as the motivating force- as Pat Blake chooses as a career the training of polo ponies, and wins her place on the West Coast challenging polo team- and eventually No. 1 on the American team. Good details of ponies and play, in a field little touched in recent years. Here's where its value lies; the characterizations are fairly routine, the successes perhaps too easily won (though the odds and hazards are there) -- but the author of Golden Sovereign etc. writes enticingly on the theme she knows best, horses.
