SOMEBODY'S HORSE

Going unwillingly to spend the summer with adult cousin Lorelei, in Wyoming, teen-age Jenny rehabilitates a horse found abandoned in the barn. This is a basic horse story: the struggle to acquire, train, and keep a horse In this case, obstacles vanish without effort: deprived of her planned summer with one horse, Jenny promptly finds another; Lorelei's lack of funds is overcome by Jenny's parents' ample provision; the ill. undernourished horse is easily cured by the vet; and when the long-ago owner, from whom the horse was stolen, comes to check out his now valuable animal, he is willing to give up his claim. Jenny is an experienced rider and seems competent, but she makes a series of errors chiefly designed to allow the author to introduce information on horsemanship and care. But, still, the people--sensible, widowed Lorelei, her two small kids, the bossy neighbor girl--are well drawn and help to flesh out a predictable story that's sure to appeal to horse-crazy girls.
