This is the sort of gay and amusing and somewhat sophisticated looking circus book that will catch the eye of the adult circus fan. The illustrations by Lydia Furbush are in full color, a beautiful piece of reproduction. But I rather question the concentrated interest on the part of children of the picture story book age in clowns. My personal experience with them has been that the clowns terrify them until they are old enough to be amused by them. The text is a bit mature, too. Perhaps this is a picture book for older children rather than small fry.
