KIRKUS REVIEW

In the life of the Jarvises (Death of an Old Sinner, 1957, and A Gentleman Called, 1958) this is an earlier chapter for here the Major General comes to live with his son Jimmie, now a freshman representative in Washington. The General's rambunctious attentions to a blonde singer, the reverberations of a dinner party, the challenge to a duel, involve U. S. Senators, Jimmie --and the dour, Scotch housekeeper Mrs. Norris -- to the derangement of the F.B.I. A giddy glaze to this.
