NEW ERA OF FLIGHT

A picture book of modern airplanes and aeronautics contains a good amount of basic information on such topics as engines, flight instruments, landing systems, supersonic flight and so forth. Geared to military flying, the survey starts with a roundup of thumbnail sketches of about fifty different kinds of aircraft from fighters to helicopters, giving such details as speed, altitude, size, etc. The following chapters on more generalized topics, while not fully explanatory, leave one with at least an elementary sense of the types of engines in use, the new techniques man has had to develop to keep up with the speeds of these engines, guided missiles, air defence and so forth.
