After citing some of the colorful mythology about spring, the author presents a clear, scientific explanation for the seasonal cycle. The great excitement of spring is captured in the text through the author's lively account of the sudden evidences of activity in all directions-- birds flying north, buds showing on the trees, bees working, green showing on the pond waters, animals ""coming to life"" after the greyness of winter. The various developments of growth and reproduction are logically followed through until all the processes slow down ""and it's summer."" The excellent, visual text is more than adequately supported by countless accurate illustrations, some black and white, some in bright colors, by Winifred Lubell.
