Too much seems crowded into this story intended for beginning readers:- the loss of a father's job; the acceptance of a new setup in a Mexican colony founded by an Evangelical church; a first school experience for small Flaco; and marriage for his sixteen year old sister. Flaco's father was acutely homesick for Oaxaca, though the rest of the family made a happy adjustment in a friendly church community; and it took the catastrophe of the new home burning to the ground to bring even the father into a realization of the colony as ""home"". A pleasant introduction to neighbors on our borders, and possibly a better book for the Read Aloud level than Easy Reading.
