BROKEN RHYTHM

This is not a big book from the angle of probable critical commentary, but it has a good 90% human interest appeal, fast pace and most of the ingredients which make for good selling and good renting. There's murder, scandal, high finance, scientific experimentation in the field of sex, romance and a groping for new values -- and it reads well. But it is fundamentally popular fiction, verging on melodrama. The story of a girl whose world crashes when her father and her fiance's family are involved in a scandal. She turns against everyone, drifts without direction, revenges herself for her disillusionment -- and eventually faces the realization that she must have an anchor. She has a child through artificial impregnation, lives abroad for five years --and returns to find completion in the love of a doctor from whom she had earlier turned. The publishers are backing this as one of their headliners. It should be a money maker.
