It's a mystery story built around a disconnected stream of events not very logically contingent on each other. What it amounts to is that Alec Ross felt like being involved in an adventure. When he heard about a bank robbery he presupposed certain conditions about the guilty man, and then, mostly by accident, Alec and his friends managed to ram into various bits of evidence which proved out these foregone conclusions. And eventually of course they do stumble on the bandit. There is no sense of suspense, and the story, which is set in Nova Scotia, suffers from the wordiness often characteristic of the juvenile novels from Canada.
