An unpleasantly acute look at some of the more ingrown aspects of political life not only in England, where an election is about to take place, but also in an unimportant little Indo-Arab principality in the middle of some race riots and an internal power struggle. This is all viewed through some people who had formerly been undergraduates together -- a self-serving television commentator, the woman he once loved married to a Conservative candidate, her twin who is the Acting High Commissioner of Rajnaya, and the nephew of Rajnaya's former Sultan who has Presidential ambitions. No one wins except Mr. Hurd who entertains and disabuses simultaneously.
