THE SILVER WOOD

Another quasi-poetic ramble through the woods that goes nowhere in particular. Night and day come and go for the woodman and the animals, the seasons pass--only a sudden fire, squelched just as suddenly by a rainstor, interrupts, the duly detailed sequence of nature. At quick glance, the full-color illustrations are attractive; on close look, there's more decorative pattern than evocative observation. Minor and mannered.
