R. E. Lee -- Vols. 3 & 4

The eagerly awaited two final volumes of the definitive life of Lee, introduced to the public on October 5th, sustain the high mark set by the first volumes. Lee emerges, not as a paragon, though it is in no sense a ""debunking"" biography, but a flesh and blood man, with certain weaknesses, not so much of character as of judgment.
