DR. SPOCK TALKS WITH MOTHERS

Dr. Spock's new book is based (about half the material here) on the monthly articles he has contributed to the Ladies' Home Journal on divers problems which beset children and plague their parents. It offers comfort and counsel on a variety of questions, more psychological than physical, and as such is an ideal supplement to the original book which is now a household byword. Calling a doctor; the convalescent child; the checkup and what it should entail; physical fitness; fresh air; sleep; teeth and the sweet tooth; the first, the middle, and the youngest child and their assorted problems; children's rivalries- and quarrelling; those old fashioned words-obedience, punishment and discipline; companionship- created in natural areas; the aggressive child, the dawdler, the whiner, the poor eater, the bedwetter and the bedtime problem, along with a good deal on teen-agers- and delinquents, all are considered in terms of both the parent- and the child- to their mutual benefit. As one might well expect, there are few categorical imperatives and the approach is relaxed, sensible and sound. Sure sales.
