KIRKUS REVIEW

For psychiatrists, teachers, guidance personnel, this study is based on case-work from the Adolescent and Adult Reading Center at Teachers College, Columbia University. The book is largely the verbatim record of six interviews between a therapist and a patient over a protected period of time, and a practical demonstration of how psychoanalytic insights have been applied to a school or learning situation in which emotional difficulties have led to reading disability. There is an amplifying commentary on the individual cases, on the techniques of the therapist in general, and on the indications which determine where psychotherapy is needed for situations which are emotional rather than mechanical in origin...A defined but definite market.
