Dr. Goodman's implication that having made one bad marriage, the individual is likely to make a second, his almost tyrannical insistence that at all costs a marriage must be saved, particularly when there are children, will be questioned by many. Geared only to those marriages which essentially are sound, which are not troubled by pathological disturbances, this is a book which in essence resembles the syndicated ""advice to the lovelorn"", a book lacking subtlety, profundity, or scope-- a placebo for those with a minor but prevalent ill.
