In spite of Steinach's fame, this book seems to us unlikely to appeal to a wide general market. But it is assuredly an important contribution in its field, and should have a permanent place in public libraries and on scientific and medical shelves. Steinach, famous as trail-blazer in the field of rejuvenation (or as he prefers to call it, reactivation), is opposed to popularization of science, and refrains from dramatizing this record of forty years of research, and includes actual case histories only where they illustrate a scientific point, never for the sake of human interest. None the less, the meticulous detail of his step by step progress from the early processes of transplanting testicles and ovaries in animals, to the control of sex glands in humans makes fascinating reading, for anyone interested in the subject.
