DARK LEGEND by Dr. Frederic Wertham

Email this review

The first psychoanalytical study of matricide, a book in subject matter for the doctor, practitioner or student of psychology, but in actual presentation, simple enough for the layman. A fascinating case study of Gino, who in his own words, tells of his childhood, his growing resentment of his mother, when she consorts with several men after her husband's death, culminating in murder when Gino kills her to avenge his father. Wertham discards categorical classifications and reveals the incestual motivation. Parallel to Hamlet and Orestes.
