Good reference book for the family medicine closet. Takes up first prenatal care, preparation for the coming of the child; then goes through the early months, on to walking, talking and eating a variety of foods. Goes into basic principles of diet, with no frills or fads. The balance of the book deals with childhood illnesses, how to guard against them, how to recognize the symptoms, how to care for the sick child. There is no intention of making this a substitute for the doctor -- but in emergency, and in cases where home treatment is all that is needed, it should be very useful. There is nothing particularly to differentiate it from other books of the type, but it seems a sane, well-balanced, sound job, with up to the minute scientific accuracy. Will have a Catholic backing.
