THE UNIVERSITY IN TRANSITION by Dr. James A. Perkins

THE UNIVERSITY IN TRANSITION

Pub Date: Feb. 28th, 1966

This small book represents the publication of the Stafford Little lectures delivered by the President of Cornell at Princeton University in November, 1965. In it he considers the missions of the university (the acquisition, transmission and aplication of knowledge through research, teaching and public service); the role of the students and faculty in the administration of the university (based not on participation by all but by particularly capable members), in consonance with the harmonious integration of the three missions; the relationship of the university to expanding educational systems (and consequently its need to limit its autonomy while maintaining its integrity). It is an overview from the top for readers involved.
