STORIES OF OUR AMERICAN PATRIOTIC SONGS

There is no question that we should all know more about our songs, not only their words but the story of how they came to be, in time of war there is always more singing and you can let out more lustily if you have an intelligent understanding of all the meaning. The author is Director of Music Education for the Pasadena City Schools and has had Jack Landau illustrate the text with bold line drawings. The songs covered are: The Star Spangled Banner; Yankee Doodle; Hail, Columbia; America; Columbia the Gem of the Ocean; Dixie; Maryland, My Maryland; The Battle Cry of Freedom; The Battle Hymn of the Republic; and America the Beautiful. A good idea, well executed.
