TRAINING YOU TO TRAIN YOUR CAT

As any reader of any of Dr. Whitney's many books on animal care and training might guess, there are many popular theories Dr. Whitney does not hold with. Training an animal without answering his needs is ridiculous. A cat, like all animals, is addicted to food therefore tidbit your way to success. Train your cat, with tidbit in hand, minimum outside distractions, appropriate commands and repetitions, and wonders will result. Particularly tempting is the technique for inducing your cat to ring the bell at the door for entrance (string pulling is a basic feline joy). Dr. Whitney is not wholly to be trusted (some cat lovers noting the use of tacks in a chair and a rubber flyswatter for correction may drop the book with a yowl) but he is still one of the more original and generally sensible writers on pet care today.
