Psychotherapist-counselor Dr. McGinnis wrote Your First Year of Marriage and this is a salutary if unexceptional book about dating, upholding conservative views and approaches. You must understand yourself (your social, family background), assess yourself; parental guidance is not to be dismissed as irrelevant. Dating from occasional to exclusive is a ""preparation for marriage"" and while there's little etiquette here, there is something about drinking. ""lines,"" asking boys out, age differential. Dr. McGinnis discourages any complete sexual relationship and also indicates the delusory differences between love at first sight and for longer. . . . However, while attempting to be cautious he only succeeds in being uninteresting--which probably means that girls won't listen to him anymore than to their parents.
