STAR SPANGLED VIRGIN

Not as important a book as one expects from Du Bose Heyward, and yet singularly charming and very original. The only book I can recall that has something of its flavor is Madams Toussaint's Wedding Day by T. I. St. Martin (a book dear to the hearts of many discriminating readers). The setting is St. Croix, in the Virgin Islands. The period that of the Relief Administration run riot, the drama encompasses Adam, his woman Rhoda, and the natives who attempted to interpret in their own inimitable way, their ideals and theories of the relations of men and women. It's deliciously amusing, it's satire at its best, it's refreshingly different. A book that has a chance for word of mouth success, given the right start. Don't overlook it!
