THE CATCHER FROM DOUBLE A by Duane Decker

THE CATCHER FROM DOUBLE A

Pete Gibbs thought he was through. He is twenty six, a veteran, when he joins the Blue Box for the third time having been recalled from the bush leagues. The pennant-hungry Blue Box were hard up for catchers, and as the press and most of the ball players believe. Gibbs is up for his last chance. Tortured by lack of confidence, Pete muffs chance after chance to stay in the big time, and is ready to concede defeat when a veteran catcher offers him some fatherly advice and uses practical psychology to snap Pete's paralysis of fear and haunting. Decker's previous books have played around this same pattern of self confidence growing out of overcoming an obsession with defeat. He has nothing new to offer, but the unfailing appeal of authentic baseball terminology, action and dugout talk.
