A routine baseball story by the author of Long Ball to Left Field and eight other novels of the diamond. In this case, the hero is a talented young third baseman who returns, with his team, to his home town and its memories of rejection and a reform school stretch. The past asserts itself and for a while it seems that Vic Scalzi will be ruined both as a man and as a human being. But good sportsmanship and the confidence of his team mates prevail and it is a happier, more certain player who takes his winning stand on third. Professionally written, familiar, suspenseful and well dosed with data of bat and ball. Strictly for fans who are legion.
