KIRKUS REVIEW

Seventeen-year-old Bucky O'Brian started his baseball career down East in Maine, but zoomed up to the big leagues at jet-propelled speed. The account of his upward progress is so brief that the reader does not see Bucky as a real person. However, once Mr. Decker has him established as a hard-hitter for the Blue Sox--a team the author created in earlier books and knows well-he creates one action-packed on-the-diamond scene after another. Bucky's near self-destruction as a ball player, resulting from sudden fame, and his second rise as one of the greats save a tale which was a near strike-out in the beginning.
