This fills in some niches in other cookbooks, by bringing together actually only recipes typical of the Southern states --states of the eastern seaboard, between the Carolinas and the Mason and Dixon line, I should say. I found some old Baltimore dishes that I've not found in more elaborate cookbooks. Hot breads, shell fish and chicken stand at the top of the list. Some extravagant dishes, but for the most part, practical and usable. There is no attempt to make it a general cookbook.
