An appreciative, unimprovised biography of the Biblical David, whose cold intellect and sensitive, artistic nature combined to create a man of genius and great leadership. The shepherd boy with a gift for music and poetry was first chosen by the Prophet Samuel, then called to the court of Saul where he fell in love with Michal, the King's seductive, superficial daughter whom he won eventually through the killing of Gollath. There too he became the close friend of the King's son, Jonathan, faithful and guileless even after Saul had turned against David. Exile, finally kingship after the death of Saul and Jonathan, and release from his love for Michal through Bath-sheba, the perfect companion of his entire reign. And the last years of discord and heartbreak as Abealon, his favorite, revolted against him and was killed. David's story as a story is a dramatic one; it is done full justice here.
