KIRKUS REVIEW

The deaths of Gerald Vanstead, who was known to be weak, Meriel- his wife- who was common, and their son, Alan, raises a simple question and motive of inheritance. A quiet investigation by the Yard throws suspicion on an uncle and a sister as well as the staff of servants and the case finds its conclusion in a confessional suicide. British to the bone, this is also tenacious and thoroughly tenable.
