KIRKUS REVIEW

A strong sense of Americana emerges from the pages of this collection of stories set in the great American West. Bill Gulick, S. Omar Barker, D. S. Halacy, Jr., Wayne C. Lee, John Prescott, Ralph Moody and many others have contributed short stories or excerpts from longer ones to create an enjoyable series of anecdotes and adventures. Horses predominate in the animal kingdom here although there are also bear cubs, dogs and burros. The atmosphere alternates from dramatic conflict between wild westerners to colorful humor between quieter ones. Boys particularly should find this a refreshing change from television interpretations.
