Delta Cajuns are again the main characters in this Louisiana story of shiftless, easy going folk. There is slight story, and the effect is chiefly one of atmosphere and personalities, with 15-year old Evvie, one of the seven Crochets, intensely adolescent and in love with a young collegian, also a Cajun. The mother of the family has one ambition- a proper house, instead of the shack in which she has raised her family, and fats gives her the chance to earn the money and save her dream. Story told in the lilting dialect of the people. No wide appeal. Public libraries, 'ware.
