Good prose retelling of the old legend of the Scandinavian hero. The three main incidents, feats of strength and courage, are included,- the killing of the monster Grendel with his naked hands; the slaying of Grendel's mother at the bottom of the sea; and the fight with the dragon in his old age. Good handling of details of Danish and Swedish life in those semi-mythical days.
