THE STORY OF PEER GYNT

The famous Peer Gynt Suite by Greig has given greater publicity to this bit of Norwegian folk lore than the actual quality of the story itself might seem to warrant. Peer Gynt was a mischief maker, a neer-do-well, not unlike Til Eulenspiegel in the troubles he brought to the people who loved him. The retelling of the story does not come quite so clean-cut as the author's version of Beawulf, but she spins the incidents together adroitly enough, and the themes of the five parts of the Greig Suite are included to give it plus appeal for the music lover.
