DEADLINE FOR McGURK

This is the second mickey mouse detective case for ten-year-old McGurk's neighborhood agency, whose fourth member, Wanda, takes it upon herself to advertise for a secretary so she won't be the only girl in the group. Naturally the applicants who come beating at the door are disgruntled when he tells them it's all a mistake. Then comes a series of kidnappings of the littler girls' dolls, along with notes taunting the detective organization for failing to solve them. As in The Nose Knows (KR, 1973), readers are likely to spot the culprits long before Wanda points out to her colleagues that ""Mister Big"" could be the rejected secretaries and not a boy at all. Why the girls are so eager to join this bunch in the first place remains a mystery.
