. . . along with time, since this is E. X. Fetters doing best what she does best. Alison takes a job as cook out in the British countryside to determine just what happened to her predecessor, her sister. The woman for whom she works has many dissatisfactions including her husband and there's a gardener (a later casualty) with a record (prison? hospital?) and two dotty little ladies who keep turning up at the oddest hours with the strangest requests. For the end of the day when your head is as tired as your feet.
