THE SNOWDEN-DOUGLASS SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSONS FOR 1949

Most Protestant denominations now have graded Church School curriculum, and the religious educators are agreed that graded lessons form the best basis for a modern religious education program. However, there is still a place in small schools and in churches where resources of finance and leadership are small, for the uniform lessons. It is fortunate that these lessons have such able editorship as that given by Dr. Douglass. His exposition of the lessons and his hints to teachers reveal a warm evangelical faith with a theological position which is soundly orthodox but not in any sense narrow or bigoted. Accordingly, the lessons would suit the great majority of ministers and Sunday School teachers in our various Protestant churches. In 1949 six months of the lessons deal with the life of Christ, three months with the Psalms, and three months with the prophets, Isaiah and Jeremiah. For each lesson there is given a Scripture passage, a lesson plan or exposition, suggested topics for discussion and hints to teachers. These lessons are designed for older children, young people and adults. As there is much inspirational material embodied in them, the lessons are suited for private devotional use.
