Lissa is a Candy Striper; she's also secretary of the Paramedics Club; and she not only listens--she cares, particularly about the children at a special school for the retarded and Artie, the brain damaged child who is her brother's friend and is about to be sent there. (In spite of brother Joey who runs away with him and almost lets him drown.) On the other hand there's her beau, Brad, who doesn't really realize how important rehabilitation can be, until he gets the message Which poor Artie can't speak but can write. . . . There's a congenital readership for this kind of book and certainly it can do no harm even if it is no more than faintly remedial. . . TLC in a teacup.
